🏛 A little history

The chocolate chip cookie was created by Ruth Wakefield at the Toll House Inn in Massachusetts in the 1930s. The recipe was printed on Nestlé's chocolate packaging and became an American classic.

Generations of bakers have tweaked the formula — browning butter, resting the dough, mixing chocolate types — but the core remains a brown-sugar dough studded with chocolate.

Chef Axl

Chef Axl baked this one himself! It earned a place in his passport — try it with your grown-up and you can earn the stamp too.

👩‍🍳 Let's bake!

  1. Whisk melted butter with both sugars until smooth.
  2. Beat in egg, yolk, and vanilla.
  3. Stir in flour, baking soda, and salt until just combined, then fold in the chocolate.
  4. Chill the dough 30 minutes (optional but improves texture).
  5. Scoop into balls on a lined sheet, spaced apart.
  6. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 10–12 minutes until edges are golden but centers look slightly underdone.
  7. Cool on the tray 5 minutes to finish setting.

💡 Chef Axl's tips

  • Pull them when the centers look underbaked — they firm up on the tray.
  • A mix of chips and chopped bars gives pools of melted chocolate.
